Sarah Mullens

Winner of the 2025 Mayday Creative Nonfiction prize, Sarah Mullens’ essays have appeared or are forthcoming in Oxford AmericanPloughsharesThe Missouri ReviewCondé Nast Traveler, and elsewhere. Her manuscript-in-progress, a hybrid memoir-biography, has received support from the Bread Loaf Writers Conference and Virginia Center for Creative Arts. She holds an MFA from Colorado State University, where she was a Hammond-Schwartz Fellow, Leslee Beeker Memorial Fellow, and Associate Editor of Colorado Review. She was born on an Army base in Texas and grew up primarily in Putnam County, West Virginia. Currently a Hughes Fellow and Visiting Writer in Residence at Southern Methodist University, she lives between Dallas, Texas, and Colorado’s Front Range.
